I’m back in Sydney now after a nice but short holiday. I’m tentatively hopeful about my heel healing (pun intended), but I think I need another week before I can speak with any authority on the matter.
I was thinking it would be nice to reminisce about this time two years ago, as I had only just begun my world run at that stage and a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then. On this day two years ago I was running north on the South Island of New Zealand, from a stunning old B&B owned by Ann and Paul near the town of Hook. The night before that we’d stayed with the two James’ in Oamaru at their wonderful Pen-y-Bryn Lodge. Prior to that we’d stayed with Andrew and Cherie and before that with Heidi and Derek in Dunedin. Andrew went to become one of our main helpers with various aspects of the web site throughout the world run, especially the videos.
NZ was an amazing place to run, especially the South Island, and I’d recommend it to any aspiring journey runner or cyclist. The summer is probably the best time too, as the weather is just about perfect, and usually not too hot.
