I feel like the calf tear is pretty much repaired now. The whole area was originally extremely sore, but the pain has gradually diminished in scope. Now the only thing that’s bothering me is a small spot on my Achilles, about half way between the heel and the where the calf begins.
I think this point on my Achilles was the genesis of the problem. It’s what was hurting during the first half of the City to Surf, prior to the calf muscle capitulating. I can even feel a little bump of scar tissue on the tendon. It’s natural that the cause of the issue might take longer to heal than the calf. If it shows signs of taking too long I’ll have it looked at professionally.
In the meantime, I’ll see how it goes. One thing that keeps me positive is that each day brings change of some sort. Sometimes it’s simply that the pain has moved to a different spot. That’s still a good thing in most cases. It’s when there’s pain, but nothing changes from day to day, that I get worried.

It’s duck season; no, it’s wabbit season: it’s duck season; wabbit season; wabbit season; it’s duck season!!!! And poor Daffy cops it again.
Yes, it is duck season, and today I passed a whole field of guys in their fatigues, firing sporadically at ducks. The field was only about a big as four football pitches, and it was a touch scary having these guns going off within a hundred metres of me. And I never could understand why anyone would want to kill animals for pleasure!
It was also very wet – the wettest day since the floods of Duluth back in mid June. This was the remnants of Hurricane Isaac. At least the day was much cooler because of it. I passed the Mammoth Cave National Park this afternoon. I assume mammoth remains have been found in these parts.
It was one of those days when I crossed both a meridian (86W) and a parallel (37N). I am now further east than I’ve ever been on the run so far.

It was another day of perfect weather and more visitors on the road.
I started the day with an interview with ABC Wagga, which resulted in lots of waves from those who heard it on their radios.
I passed through Junee and Illabo, where Carmel met me with a pie. Soon after, David from Wagga, who had heard the interview that morning, decided to drive out for a run with me. Thanks David.
Very soon after that, Kate, Tony, and Sue Day met us on the road. They had driven from Sydney so that Kate could run with me. She ran the last 17 km or so, on a course I ran in 2009 as part of my Melbourne to Sydney run. I was feeling much stronger today.
Kate will continue running with me tomorrow, as I head through Cootamundra and on to Harden. Hopefully the weather and idyllic landscape continues.
