I have a slight calf strain at the moment. I guess the 100 km I ran last week in training – the second week after a tough ultra race – was a little too much. It’s nothing to worry about, as I’ve had similar issues on innumerable occasions in the past, but it does signal a need to take it a little easier for the next while. I was still able to get through 12 km this morning, but I have to run quite slowly. No fast runs for a few weeks.

The photo below was taken by Tony Mangan during the Icarus 12 hour race. This was around half way, and I was still feeling pretty good at that stage. I had a cup of water (like the one in my hand) just about every lap. I certainly didn’t become dehydrated.
