Six years ago yesterday I ran through Punxsutawney in Pennsylvania. For those who aren’t aware, this town is the setting for the movie Groundhog Day. The town really does have a groundhog which the town leaders ‘interrogate’ on Feb 2 each year. The groundhog, called Punxsutawney Phil, supposedly speaks a secret groundhog language to the town elders and tells them whether winter will continue for another six weeks or not.

Unfortunately, Phil’s success rate is only 39%. I suggested to a journalist from the town who interviewed me that maybe the town elders were misunderstanding Phil. If they’d reversed his prophecies, the success rate would have been 61%. The suggestion they couldn’t really understand Phil’s groundhog language was not well received.

Anyhow, here are some photos taken from that day around the Punxsutawney district. As you can see, it is a beautiful place for running, or anything for that matter.
